And so another great expedition from Reid Hagelin and his intrepid bunch of keen anglers comes to an end for another year. The gentlemen had 11 for their first week and 42 fish for the forty eight anglers fishing for the second week. There were some good catches with a number of stunning spring salmon in excess of 22 lbs caught , which emphasises the fact that the River Dee is the top spring salmon venue in the world. The visiting anglers were staying in a number of establishments throughout the river valley and contibuted significantly to the local economy. The weather during their stay was quite cold and changeable and Mr Hagelin commented that they normally expect to see the cherry blossom out which was late this year.
There was a super dinner party held for guests, ghillies and proprietors which was at the Potarch hotel on Saturday 15th March. The dinner provided was superb and the Piper Mr Mike Donald, formerly gillie at Inchmarlo and now freelance guide, set the scene for a pleasant nights entertainment with a wonderful new composition entitled the "Viking Raiders".The guest speakers were first class, there was a speech presented by Jon Ivar Moe,managing director of the upper Namsen Fishings, and there was a prize ceremony for successful anglers which was well hosted by party organiser Reid Hagelin. It brought to an end the expedition from our Scandanavian visitors who were most welcome visitors and we all look forward to seeing them in the future and wish them more success with the river Dee salmon.
