The Dee Salmon Fishing Improvement Association (DSFIA) was formed by the Marquis of Huntly in 1872 with the aim of improving the rod fishings on the River Dee in North-East Scotland by leasing net fishings below Banchory and removing the nets, thereby allowing a larger number of salmon and sea trout to reach the spawning beds in the upper waters. The Association has continued since its date of formation without a formal constitution.

Among the aims and objectives of the Association are the improvement of the rod fishings on the River Dee and its tributaries, acting in the interests of the rod fishing proprietors, consideration of conservation measures, habitat improvement works, promotion of salmon fishing and many other related issues affecting the river. The Association also continues to fund the Dee Salmon Fisheries Company Limited, which, although dormant, requires to be maintained, as it holds title to the netting rights within the lower section of the mainstem of the River Dee.
