2016 stock assessment

January 19, 2017

Fry numbers in 2016 were significantly down on the previous year. Reasons for this are thought to be Storm Frank - which would have washed out a huge number of eggs from the gravel last winter - and poor returns of adults to the river in 2015, leading to less eggs laid.

Maybe we are optimists, but we think 2017 will be much improved - after all, there has been no record-breaking flood on the Dee this winter, and 2016 rod catches indicate a substantial improvement on 2015 in numbers of spawning fish in the river.
