Dee Salmon Fishery Board Statement on Pink Salmon

July 20, 2017

There have been reports of Pacific pink (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) salmon being caught in rod and net fisheries in Scotland, Ireland and England. To date, two have been caught in the lower reaches of the Dee. The risk associated with these fish and any potential impact on Atlantic salmon are thought to be low.

Fisheries Management Scotland Statement on Pink Salmon explains the likely source of the fish,  what is known about their impacts, photographs and a description of the species.

If you catch a Pacific pink salmon on the Dee, then please retain it alive, place in a keep or landing net and inform the River Office via the 24 hour number (013398 80411). We will then arrange for the animal to be collected so that we can glean as much information from it as possible, including disease testing. If you are unable to keep the fish alive then please dispatch it humanely but still contact us as we can still get good information.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us.
