The new air link between Reykjavik and Aberdeen has created new opportunities for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We thought it would be a great idea to introduce Icelandic anglers to the Dee. Working in partnership with destination management specialists Simpliciter, Visit Aberdeenshire, Iceland Air and the Tor Na Coille hotel in Banchory, we brought a group over to spend the weekend with us.

After arriving on Friday morning, the guys were on the river by lunchtime, fishing courtesy of Invery and Tilquhillie and Lower Blackhall and Kinneskie. Despite the torrential rain one of the group, Siggi, hooked and landed a grilse, much to everyone’s delight. Most of the guys had never tried a double handed rod before, so the lessons laid on by Will and Al from TwinPeakes Fly Fishing worked like a charm. Ghillies Jim Turnbull, Karl Revel and Colin Simpson were on top form to ensure the guys enjoyed a great Deeside welcome.

David Littlewood and the team at the Tor Na Coille looked after everyone and the group sampled some of the wonderful local produce and first class hospitality we have on Deeside. The hotel held a reception where Board chairman, Richard Gledson, welcomed one and all to river.

We wrapped things up on Sunday, with some trout fishing on the Don at Kildrummy, topped off by a lovely lunch at the Kildrummy Inn.

It was a fun weekend and the guys are already plotting a return visit next spring.
