River Dee Bursary 2020

The Dee District Salmon Fishery Board (Dee DSFB) has a bursary to encourage people to undertake a career on the River Dee. The bursary will provide a maximum £5,000 towards development and training costs for a period of one year starting on 1 January 2020. The Dee DSFB will also arrange work experience opportunities.

How to Apply

The bursary is open to everyone and applications are invited from 11 November 2019. The closing date for applications is 13 December 2019. The successful applicant will be notified by 20 December 2019.

Applicants should submit

  1. A CV
  2. A covering letter explaining their motivation for wanting to work on the river.
  3. A costed training plan.

Types of Vocational Training

Applicants should consider the type of training they require for a career on the River Dee. Potential career opportunities exist in several different roles on the river. For example: Ghillie, Fishery Officer (Bailiff), Biologist, Field Officer.

The list below is for guidance only and it is up to the applicant to decide the most appropriate training they require for their chosen career path.

Work Experience

The Dee DSFB will organise work experience to cover a variety of roles. For example

  • Ghillieing on the Dee with participating beats
  • Smolt trapping with River Dee Trust
  • Electrofishing with River Dee Trust
  • Habitat Enhancement with Dee DSFB
  • Redd Counting with Dee DSFB
  • Fishery Officer patrols with Dee DSFB
  • Angling Development events with Dee DSFB
