Fisheries Protection During Covid-19

July 24, 2020

The River Office has maintained policing effort and the 24hr on-call service throughout lockdown. During this period (March-June) there has been a total of 26 policing incidents, a significant increase compared to the 11 incidents for the same period in 2019. These incidents resulted in 12 warnings given and two charges made. 13 related to intel gathering from reports to the Fishery Board.

All incidents were rod and line and there has been no evidence of netting gangs.

Excellent communications between Fisheries Officers and ghillies/proprietors have resulted in many of these cases being dealt with swiftly or providing good information for staff to act on. This has improved well in recent years and we are thankful for the support we get.

Please keep an eye on your river and report anything suspicious by calling our 24hr number 01339 880411. All information received will be treated in confidence.

Thank you.
